Details
Dr. James M. Dawson did early canning in San Jose, first in an orchard near 21st and Julian, later at 5th and Julian in 1874. Canned 4,000 cases annually in 1874, 25,000 in 1876. J.M Dawson left the company in xxxx, but company continued. His son, J.B., continued with the company. Constructed state-of-the-art cannery on Auzerais Avenue in 1893 ( 1891 according to Preservation San Jose ). Merged into California Fruit Canners Association in 1899.

Existed in 1893, even though J. M. Dawson Packing existed at Cinnabar and Montgomery.
August 17, 1900 San Francisco Call gives the tragic story of boy killed by an elevator in the cannery.

San Carlos: Photo in Sunshine Fruit and Flowers (p196) definitely shows the plant as the future Del Monte Plant #3, with the house in the middle of the site.
