Western Canning was a chinese-run Emeryville cannery founded by the Mee family in 1918. The cannery was sold to Virden Packing in 1921, and became Del Monte's plant #35 in 1927.
The plant was spotlighted in the October 1920 Canning Age magazine with a large article on the cannery and its machinery.
An article on the cannery's sale noted that a last worker had written "goodbye" in Chinese and English when he left.
