Flotill Foods was a Stockton cannery owned by Tillie Lewis. Lewis, born Myrtle Erlich, had been married to a wholesale grocer; when her marriage ended, she recognized that italian style tomatoes could be canned in the states. Lewis partnered with Florindo del Gaizo, owner of a Naples cannery, to start canning in the United States. Flotilla's Stockton cannery was built in 1935 and in operation the next year.
The company expanded to several canneries and a can manufacturing plant. The company changed its name to Tillie Lewis Foods in the 1950's[1].
