Summary
Predecessor to Caterpillar. Oakland. The C.L. Best Tractor company was founded by Clarence Leo Best who had started by working for his father's Best Manufacturing Company which built traction engines. Best's factory was in Elmhurst (East Oakland).
In 1925, Best merged with the Holt Manufacturing Company to form Caterpillar.
