Western Granite and Marble was a San Jose building materials supplier in existence around the turn of the 20th century. The company was formed from the partnership of Combs, Blanchard & O'Neil, and incorporated in 1888. The partnership was formed in 1883 from the merger of a marble business owned by J.W. Combs, and a granite company owned by W. W. Blanchard and T. O'Neil. C. T. Ryland was president in 1888.
Western Granite and Marble in San Jose
The company's building, located on First Street at the Southern Pacific tracks and across the street from the Southern Pacific's Market Street Railroad Station, appears in various old photos. The company also owned the Crystal Lake Quarries, a granite quarry at Yuba Pass, California, and bough marble from Vermont. The company also had a Santa Clara quarry[1]. H.S. Foote declared the company had 40-50 employees[2].
The company appeared to disappear after 1906, and its site became Borcher Brothers building materials.
