The John W. McCarthy Jr. and Company estate went bankrupt in 1922, and was sold to the San Leandro Canning Company for $100,000 [1] The sale was reported to the Mel company in 1922[2], and the name changed to Northern California Packing Company.

The Mountain View plant had formerly been the P. L. Sanguinetti Canning Company.
