According to Sawyer's 1922 county history J.Z. Anderson was a freight teamster who made a living hauling supplies to mining camps in Nevada. He relocated to San Jose in 1865 and got interested in the fruit business first as a grower and then as a shipper. He shipped the first fresh cherries from San Jose to the East Coast, was responsible for the standard cherry box, and first to use women for packing. Also President of California Fruit Union. "His nature was a buoyant one and he never allowed himself to be discouraged by failure or defeat." George H. was his son, as was Alden Anderson (in Sacramento as of 1916)
