J. J. Shaner was a Santa Clara Valley fruit dryer, selling fruit primarily to the east coast[1]. Shaner's dryer was a drop-off location for prunes for the California Cured Fruit Association in 1900[2].
Shaner was an early supporter of the California Dried Fruit Association in 1888. Shaner also recommended the use of almonds as root-stock for apricots[3].
Shaner may have been Dr. John Junius Shaner, author of "The Character Builder", a religious tract[4].
