The California Fruit Preserving Company was a turn of the century cannery. It had formerly been known as the [[R. Hickmott Canning Company][2]. Robert Hickmott founded the cannery in 1890 after a stint working for a Sacramento cannery. Hickmott died in 1922[3]. Jack London worked for the company during his youth. The company was well-known for its peaches and asparagus[4].
The company was merged into the California Fruit Canners Association in 1900; their plant was used as a warehouse by the Oakland Preserving Company[5].
