Sylvester Newhall was a fruit dryer and orchardist in the Willow Glen area of San Jose. His drier appears in both the 1893 and 1896 San Jose city directories. The drier processed 600 tons of fruit in 1897[1]
Newhall was a former gold miner who settled in San Jose; he died in 1897[2].
