Summary

Probably a confused name for several different canneries. Flickinger's cannery in the Berryessa district was referred to as the orchard cannery", but the 1906 city directory also has a variant in a location that wouldn't make sense for Flickingers. A "1917 Western Canner and Packer also mentions that Orchard Canning Company in Campbell was going to pack 100,000 cases of tomatoes that year. There's also an "L.D. Costa Orchard Canning Company" mentioned in "1908 California lists of closed corporations":http://books.google.com/books?id=6IY0AQAAMAAJ&pg=PA12&lpg=PA12&dq=%22orchard+canning+company%22&source=bl&ots=_ch8JoBPiN&sig=zuEwaLgvyQC10BU34vaAeCk0Cp0&hl=en&sa=X&ei=D3mzUd7HC8TwqAGB_YCQBA&ved=0CEUQ6AEwBQ#v=onepage&q=%22orchard%20canning%20company%22&f=false L.D. Costa was in San Jose according to a "list of petitions to the ICC in 1904":http://books.google.com/books?id=H3zVAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA491&lpg=PA491&dq=%22orchard+canning+company%22&source=bl&ots=Ynb6JKBues&sig=01pByTknlYX8qvQyKFudKfAlRIo&hl=en&sa=X&ei=D3mzUd7HC8TwqAGB_YCQBA&ved=0CEsQ6AEwBw#v=onepage&q=%22orchard%20canning%20company%22&f=false .
