The California Fruit Union was a co-operative marketing association, organized in 1883 and incorporated in 1885 to promote California fruit and exercise control over selling locations and prices[1]. Marketing implied both creating a market and serving as a seller, with packers such as Porter Brothers selling fruit in Chicago for the California Fruit Union shippers[2].

The California Fruit Union closed in 1894; xxx stated twenty years later that the Union failed because "the large growers who supplied nine-tenths of the business refused to longer make good of the smaller growers, many of whom would put up inferior fruit which would not pay freight charges[3].

J.Z. Anderson was the president of the organization for a time[4]. In 1886, Horatio P. Livermore was president and H.A. Fairbank secretary[5].
