Francis E. Laney was a Berkeley cannery manager. Laney was born in 1884, and died in Berkeley in 1933[1].
Laney worked for several canneries during his career starting in 1905. Laney was at Berkeley's Sunlit Fruit Company starting at least in 1912, and lasting through the company's purchase by Del Monte around 1920. Laney also worked as general manager for Virden Packing, and managed canneries for Del Monte's Sterling Canning. When Emil Nielsen's Nielsen Packing Company was sold to the Sutter Co-operative Growers in 1925, Laney led the new company[2]. Sutter Co-operative Growers organized several canning peach growers.
At his death, Laney was the president of the Independent Growers Assocation for peach growers[3].
