The Haywards Fruit Growers Association was an early growers cooperative banding together to sell consistent fruit. The cooperative was founded in December 1889[1]. Milo Knox organized the group in 1889, sending the first crops to Chicago[2]. The cooperative soon pulled in members from San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Niles, Sunol, and Danville as well. In 1901, the cooperative shipped forty cars of dried fruit[3].
The group's creation might have been prompted by the recent collapse of the Livermore Farmer's Union. That co-op had sold primarily through two Sacramento wholesalers[4].
The co-op' was no longer in existence by 1905[5].
