Growers Packing and Warehousing Association was the packing and warehousing arm of the California Prune and Apricot Growers. The initial announcement for Sunsweet's purchase of packing houses indicated that the new company would have the same board of directors, but would be responsible both for packing and warehousing[1][2]. The Association allowed Sunsweet to take fruit from the farmers, then hand it over to Growers Packing and Warehousing Association for packing and storage, thenborrow money against the crop now stored in a bonded public warehouse. This process of temporarily storing raw materials and finished goods and using it as collateral in loans is commonly referred to as "field warehousing", though Sunsweet's use of the Association for packing as well is less common.
The San Jose News called them the "manufacturing branch of the California Prune and Apricot Growers"[3].
Some records - Sanborn maps, railroad records, or property records - might refer to Growers Packing and Warehousing Association, but conceptually the plant would have been a Sunsweet plant.
