Canneries handled both local fruit and fruit from outside the area. There are news reports of the Los Gatos Canneries plant receiving peaches from the central valley. A Corps of Engineers article on dredging around Alviso noted that the port received "a considerable quantity of tomatoes and pears" during the canning season[1].
